Identify the reducing agent in the following cases :-
(i) 4NH_{3} + 5O_{2} ----\  \textgreater \  4NO + 6H_{2} O
(II) H_{2}O + F_{3} -----\  \textgreater \  HF + HOF

★ 4NH₃ + 5O₂ ⇒ 4NO + 6H₂O

In the above reaction, NH₃ is getting oxidised as hydrogen is removed and oxygen is added as it becomes NO. Also, O₂ is getting reduced because hydrogen is added and it becomes H₂O.

Therefore, NH is the reducing agent in the above reaction.

★ H₂O + F₃⇒ HF + HOF

In the above reaction, F₃ is getting reduced as hydrogen is added and becomes HF. Also, H₂O is getting oxidised as one hydrogen atom is removed and it becomes HOF.
