The separation techniques A,B & C in the flow chart given in the diagram are: (A.) Sublimation,

(B.) Decantation and (C.). Evaporation.

The answers can be justified by the following points given below:

  • Sublimation: It is a physical process by which the substance or compound or a mixture to which it is applied converts the particular substance to vapour form directly from solid to seperate it from the mixture.

Here, A is sublimation because NH4Cl is a sublime which is converted to vapour form when heated at around 340°C and gets seperated from the mixture of NaCl salt and SiO2 silicon oxide. It doesn't change the composition of the substance and so on cooling it turns to solid form again.

  • Decantation: It is a process of seperation of a mixture that consists of a solid substance and a liquid substance or immiscible mixture,in which one is water insoluble substance and another is water soluble substance.

Here, B is decantation because after mixture of SiO2 and NaCl is seperated from NH4Cl, distilled water is added to the mixture of salt and SiO2 where decantation method is applied to seperate the two substance since SiO2 is water insoluble and NaCl is water soluble.

  • Evaporation: It is a physical process where heat is applied and liquid form of the substance turns to its vapour form.

Here, C is evaporation since NaCl solution cannot be seperated by any other processes so it is evaporated so that the crystals of NaCl and water gets seperated.
