Subject: Environmental pollution
I am a regular reader of your national daily and wish to use the columns of this esteemed newspaper to highlight the problem of environmental pollution.
Plastic bags are seen strewn about, garbage dumps pollute the air. Factories are made right next to residential areas and the pollutants cause respiratory diseases. Chemicals and pollutants are thrown into the rivers. We litter without giving a second thought to the cleanliness of our surroundings. Loudspeakers blare music or speeches, disturbing everybody's peace. Strict action needs to be taken against offenders. Afforestation is the need of the hour; car pools should be encouraged; people should use public transport; judicious use of air conditioners and CFCs has to be done. 'Reduce, reuse and recycle should become our mantra'.
I hope the concerned authorities and the public will take appropriate action at the earliest.
