Cos^2 theta-sin^2theta=a

cos^2theta-sin^2theta can be written as (cos theta + sin theta)(cos theta-sin theta)
as it is given that cos theta-sin theta=b

(cos theta+sin theta)(b)=a

cos theta + sin theta=a/b
