consider that number be X

now according to the question

(X - 1/2) * 4 = 5

X -1/2 = 5/4

X = 5/4 + 1/2

thus

X = 7/4

hi \\ here \: is \: the \: solution \\ \\ let \: the \: original \: number \: be \: x \\ \\ according \: to \: the \: question \\ x - \frac{1}{2} \times 4 = 5 \\ \\ \frac{2x - 1}{2} \times 4 = \frac{5}{4} \\ \\ 2x - 1 = \frac{5}{2} + 1 \\ \\ x = \frac{7}{2 } \times \frac{1}{2} \\ \\ x = \frac{7}{4}

hope helps❤
