First let the no. be 'a' then, according to question

1/2 is substracted fron a

a - 1/2 and,

If multiplied by 4 give 5

a - 1/2 × 4 = 5

a - 4 /2 = 5

a -2 = 5

a = 5 + 2

a = 7

So the no. Is 7

Hope it helped you

Answer :  \bold{7/4}

Explanation -

Let the number is x

According to the given question -

(x -  \dfrac{1}{2} ) \times 4 = 5

( \dfrac{2x - 1}{2} ) \: 4 = 5

 \dfrac{8x - 4}{2}  = 5

8x - 4 = 10

8x = 10 + 4

8x = 14

x =  \dfrac{14}{8}

Simplifying by 2

 \dfrac{14}{8}  =  \dfrac{7}{4}

Hence :

 \bold{Answer : 7/4}
