Here you Go......

Take the number as x and make an equation according to the question

First 1/2 is subtracted from x

so the difference is

x-1/2

Then multiply the difference by 4

4 (x-1/2) and the result is 5

4 (x-1/2)=5

Solve the equation.....

Therefore the number is 7/4

Hope it helps ........

Let the unknown number be denoted by the variable x.

Forming an linear equation from the given word equation:

 (x - \frac{1}{2} ) \times 4 = 5

Solving the equation formed:

( \frac{x \times 2}{1 \times 2} - \frac{1}{2} ) \times 4 = 5 \\ \\ \frac{ 2x-1}{2} \times 4 = 5 \\ \\ ( 2x - 1) \times 2 = 5 \\ \\ 4x - 2= 5 \\ 4x = 7 \\ x = \frac{ 7}{4} = 1.75 \\

Therefore, the unknown number is 1.75.
