Hi ,

ay² + ay + 3 = 0 ----( 1 )

y² + y + b = 0 -------( 2 )

it is given that ' 1 ' is the zero of the equations

( 1 ) and ( 2 ) ,

substitute y = 1 in both the equations ,

a + a + 3 = 0

2a + 3 = 0

a = - 3/2 ----( 3 )

1 +1 + b = 0

2 + b = 0

b = - 2 ---( 4 )

Now ,

ab = ( -3/2 ) ( -2 ) [ from ( 3 ) and ( 4 ) ]

= 3

I hope this helps you.
