If (1) is zero of the polynomial f(x)

then f(x) = 0, when we put the value of x = 1

a {1}^{3} - {1}^{2} + 1 + 4 = 0 \\ \implies \: a - 1 + 1 + 4 = 0 \\ \therefore \: a = - 4
