Let the number be x
Then,
10+4x=5-5x
10=5-5x-4x
10=5-9x
10-5=-9x
5=-9x
X=-5/9

Vip111: the result is 5 less than 5 times the number. i. e. 5x-5 not 5-5z
divyam5: Five less than means 5-
divyam5: Five times the number means 5x
Vip111: what is 5 less than 15?-10 or 10.
divyam5: Let the number be x .Then,five less than five times the number =5-5x(five times the number=5x)
Vip111: what I am saying is it should be 5x-5,
Vip111: example 1 less than 3 is 2.Therefore 5 less than 5x will be =5x-5.

Given - If 10 be added four times a certain number, the result is 5 less than five times the number.

Find - Number

Solution - The number is 15.

Let the number be x. As per the given information, 10 is added to four times a certain number.

Four times the number = 4x

Adding 10 we get = 10 + 4x

The result is 5 less than 5 times the number.

Five times the number = 5x

Subtracting five we get = 5x - 5

Equating the two equations -

10 + 4x = 5x - 5

10 + 5 = 5x - 4x

15 = x

Thus, the number is 15.
