Energy which will reach secondary consumer will be - (c) 1 J

Food chain has trophic levels. These levels denotes type of organisms in a food chain. Transfer of energy through this food chain occurs, with only 10% passage of energy. This means 90% of energy is wasted at each trophic level. The sequence of trophic level is -

Producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer.

Question asks energy transferred from producer to secondary consumer level, thus -

Producer to primary consumer -

100*10/100

Thus, 10 J of energy, out of 100 J reaches primary consumer.

Primary consumer to secondary consumer energy transferred is - 10*10/100

Thus, only 1 J of energy will reach secondary consumer.
