The value of x = 10.5 or,  \dfrac{21}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

12, 14, 9 and x are in proportion.

To find, the value of x = ?

∴ 12 : 14 : : 9 : x

We know that,

If a, b, c and d are in proportion.

a : b : : c : d

∴ ad = bc

Here, a = 12, b = 14, c = 9 and d = x

∴ 12 × x = 14 × 9

⇒ 12x = 126

⇒ x = \dfrac{126}{12}

Dividing numerator and denominator by 6, we get

⇒ x = \dfrac{\dfrac{126}{6} }{\dfrac{12}{6} }

⇒ x = \dfrac{21}{2}

⇒ x = 10.5

The value of x = 10.5 or,  \dfrac{21}{2}
