We know that,

If a, b, c and d are in proportion.

a : b : : c : d

∴ ad = bc

∴ 12 × x = 14 × 9

⇒ 12x = 126

⇒ x = $\dfrac{126}{12}$

Dividing numerator and denominator by 6, we get
