Step-by-step explanation:

In all such questions, always remember that your first step should be the assumption of a variable.

Let the number be 'x'.

Now according to the statement in the question, we can simply form the following equation,

 \frac{2}{5} x -  \frac{1}{7} x = 36 \\

Solving LHS,

 \frac{14x - 5x}{35}  = 36  \\  \\  =  >  \frac{11x}{35}  = 36  \\ \\  =  > 11x = 36 \times 35 \\  =  > x =  \frac{1260}{11}  \\  \\  =  >x =  114 \frac{6}{11}

Required number = 114 \frac{6}{11}

Answer:

114 \frac{6}{11}

let the number be x .

2/5x-1/7x =36

(14x-5x)/35=36

x=36×35/9

x=35×4

x=140
