Let the numerator be x and the denominator be y

x/(y+2) = 1/4

4x=y+2

4x-y=2  .......(1)

(x+1)/y = 2/5

5x+5=2y

5x-2y= -5  ........(2)

Solving (1) and (2)

(4x-y =2)  *2

5x-2y= -5

Subtracting them:

= 8x- 2y= 4

- 5x+2y= 5

= 3x= 9

= x=3

Sub x=3 in (1)

4(3) -y = 2

-y= 2-12

-y=-10

y= 10
