Dear Shivendra,

# Complete question should be -

If 20g of a solute was dissolved in 500ml of water and osmotic pressure of the solution was found to be 600mm of Hg at 15°C, the molecular weight of the solute is ___.

◆ Answer -

M = 1200 g

● Explaintion -

# Given -

W = 20 g

V = 500 ml = 0.5 L

π = 600 mm Hg = 0.789 atm

T = 15 ℃ = 288 K

# Solution -

Osmotic pressure of solution is given by -

π = CRT

π = n/V × R × T

π = W/MV × R × T

M = WRT / πV

M = (20 × 0.082 × 288) / (0.789 × 0.5)

M = 1200 g

Therefore, molar mass of solvent dissolved is 1200 g.

Thanks for asking..
