20x + 20y = 70

Divide throughout by 20,

x + y = 3.5

To find average, divide by two.

 \frac{x+y}{2} =  \frac{3.5}{2}

 \frac{3.5}{2} = 1.75

20x + 20y = 70

Taking common,

20(x+y) =70

x+y =70/20

x+y = 7/2 = 3.5

Now,

As we know that

Average =(sum of quantity)/( no. of quantity)

Here,

Average = (x+y)/2

Average = 3.5/2

Average = 35/20 = 7/4 = 1.75

Average = 1.75

I hope this will help you
