since x=3 and y=1

substituting their values

3a+b=7. i

3b+a=5. ii

adding we get

4a+4b=12

a+b=3. iii

subtracting we get

2a-2b=2

a-b=1. iv

adding eqn iii and iv

2a=4

a=2

substituting

2-b=1

b=1

Ans=a=2,b=1

hope it helps
