$3 + \frac{2 \sqrt{2} }{2 - \sqrt{2} } = a + b \sqrt{2}$



comparing both side , we get

$a = 3$
and

$b = \frac{2}{2 - \sqrt{2} } = \frac{2(2 + \sqrt{2)} }{(2 - \sqrt{2}) (2 + \sqrt{2} ) } \\ \\ = \frac{2(2 + \sqrt{2} )}{4 - 2} = 2 + \sqrt{2}$
