If 3 cubes of side measuring 4 cm each are placed side by side, what would be the dimensions of the resulting cuboid?

Side of cube = 4 cm

Now, if we place three cubes side by side, they are joined next to each other to form a cuboid.

This cuboid looks something like this:

Hopefully isn't too confusing, but as you can see, we have the three cubes combining to form a cuboid like this, and the length and breadth will be the sum of all 3 cuboid sides put side by side = 4+4+4 = 12

The height is 4

So the dimensions of the cuboid are 12*12*4.
