given equation is

3x+5y=8 ____(1)

7x-3y=48 ____(2)

find value of x+y

multiply equation 1 by 7 we get

21x+35y=56 ____ (3)

multiply equation 2 by 3 we get

21x-9y=144 ____(4)

subtract between equation(3) and (4)

44y=88

y=\frac{-88}{44}

y=-2

put the value of y in equation (1) we get

3x+5(-2)=8

3x-10=8

3x=10+8

3x=18

x=\frac{18}{3}

x=6

value of x+y

=6+(-2)

=4

so the value of x+y is 4.
