5x+3y=7. ===> x = (7-3y) /5

sub in 3x+5y=9,

3[ (7-3y) /5 ]+5y = 9

21-9y+25y = 45

16y = 24

y = 3/2 in (x = (7-3y) /5)

x = (7-3y) /5

x= = {7-3(3/2)}/5 = (7-9/2) /5 = (14-9)/10 = 1/2

x = 1/2, y = 3/2

x+y = 3/2+1/2 = 2
