4x-y=16........... 1

x-2y=8.............. 2

substitute x= 8+2y in eqn 1

4(8+2y) -Y=16

32+8y-y-16=0

7y=-16

y=-16/7

x=8+2(-16/7)

=8-32/7=56-32/7

=24/7

ans: x=-16/7, y=24/7
