Answer:

a total of 2 mol. of ions are present.

Explanation:

given 40g of NaOH is dissolved

since mass of NaOH is 23+16+1=40g/mol.

therefore 1 mole of NaOH is dissolved

now since NaOH will dissociate to give

Na+ and OH- repectevily in water.

now there are a total of 1 mol Na+ and 1 mol OH-

so there are a total of

2 mol. of ions present in the 1000 litre water.

1 mol cation(Na+) and 1 mole anion(OH-)

the amount of water present doesn't make much difference.( just so you know the polar nature of water has a major role to play here)

It simply means that If you want to make a 60% solution of NaOH, You just measure 60 grams of NaOH by any analytical balance, and add to distill water but kept in mind the total volume of water and NaOH will not be exceeded from 100 ml. Means that 60 of NaOH/60g of NaOH+40ml of water X100 = 60 %of NaOH,

but you need to heat the water for dissolving such an amount of NaOH, otherwise, NaOH settle in the bottom of the beaker
