Given:-

  • 50 is subtracted from two third of a number and the result is equal to the sum of  40 and 1/4 of that number.

To find:-

  • The number.

Solution:-

Let the number be 'p'

Acc to question :-

=> 2/3 (p) - 50 = 40 + 1/4 (p)

=> 2p/3 - 50 = 40 + p/4

=> (2p - 150)/3 = (160 + p)/4

=> (2p - 150)4 = (160 + p)3

=> 8p - 600 = 480 + 3xp

=> 8p - 3p = 480 + 600

=> 5p = 1080

=> p = 1080/5

=> p  = 216

Hence, the required no is 216.

Answer:

216

Step-by-step explanation:

let that no. be = X

then acc. to statement :

50 is to be subtracted from 2/3 of that no.

2X / 3 - 50 .......( A)

which is equal to sum of 40 and 1/4 of that no.

40 + 1X / 4 ..... (B)

now we can write A and bB equation as A= B

2X/3 - 50 = 40 + 1X / 4

2X/3 - 1X/4 = 40+50

take X common

X [ 2/3 -1/4] = 90

take LCM of 2/3-1/4 = 8-3/ 12 = 5/12

now we can write : X[ 5/12] = 90

X = 90 x 12 / 5

X = 18 x 12 = 216

X = 216
