Given :-

6 , 11 are solution of equation x - a = 17

To find :-

value of a

Solution :-

as , 6 and 11 are solution of equation

x = 6 , 11

therefore :-

x - a ==17

case 1 :- x = 6

so, 6 - a = 17

a = 6-17

a = -11

case 2:- x =11

so, 11-a=17

a = 11-17

a= -6

so the value of a = -6 and -11

thank you

Linear Equations

Given

6 and 11 are solution of equation x - a = 17.

To Find

Value of a in both the cases.

Solving

Any number is a solution of any equation when it satisfies the given equation.

a) It is given that 6 satisfies the equation.

So, putting value of x = 6.

x - a = 17

6 - a = 17

Now, add 'a' to both sides.

6 - a + a = 17 + a

6 = 17 + a

Now, subtract 17 from both sides.

6 - 17 = 17 + a - 17

- 11 = a

So, value of 'a' for this case is -11.

b) It is given that 11 satisfies the equation.

So, putting value of x = 11.

x - a = 17

11 - a = 17

Now, add 'a' to both sides.

11 - a + a = 17 + a

11 = 17 + a

Now, subtract 17 from both sides.

11 - 17 = 17 + a - 17

-6 = a

So, value of 'a' for this case is -6.

Answer

So, value of a is -11 and -6 for the given cases respectively.
