If 640 L of molten metal is cast into 10 identical cubes, how many litres of paint will be required to paint all the cubes completely with a uniform thickness of 1 cm?​

Given,

Total volume of the molten metal = 640 litres

Total number of cubes = 10

Thickness of paint layer = 1 cm

To find,

The required amount of paint.

Solution,

Total volume of the molten metal

= 640 litres

= 640000 cm³

Volume of one cube = 640000/10 = 64000 cm³

Length of Side of one cube = ³✓64000 = 40 cm

Length of the cube with paint layer = 40 + (2×1) = 42 cm

Volume of the cube with paint layer

= (42)³

= 74088 cm³

Volume of the paint = 74088-64000 = 10088 cm³

Total volume of the paint = 10088×10 = 100880 cm³ = 100.88 litres

Hence, 100.88 litres of paint will be required.

Solution:

640 L of molten metal for10 cubes

Hence 64L  for 1 cube

=> 64000 cm³  for  1 cube

=> Side of cube = ∛64000 = 40 cm  

Total Surface area of cube = 6 * 40²  = 9600 cm²

Thickness at each surface  = 1 cm

Hence Volume of Paint Required in one cube = 9600 * 1 = 9600 cm³

=9.6 L

Volume of Paint Required in  10 cubes = 10 * 9.6 = 96 Litre
