Volume of the molten metal = 640 L = 640 X 1000 ml = 6,40,000 cm^3

As the molten metal is cast into 10 identical cubes,

the volume of each cube = 640000/10 cm^3 = 64000cm^3

Let the side of each cube = a

Then volume = a^3 = 64000

                So a = 40cm

Total surface area of 1 cube  = 6a^2 = 6 X 40 X 40 = 9600cm^2

Total surface area of 10 cubes = 9600 X 10 = 96000cm^2

Thickness of paint = 1cm

Volume of paint required = Area X thickness = 96000 X 1cm^3

                                          = 96000cm^3 = 96000ml = 96 L

So the total quantity of paint required = 96 L
