Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

A = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6},

B = { 2, 4, 6, 8 }.

To find :-

Find the following :

A ∪ B , A ∩ B, A – B and B – A through venn diagrams ?

Solution :-

See the above attachment

A ∪ B:-

{ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} U { 2, 4, 6, 8 }

= { 1,2,3,4,5,6,8 }

A ∩ B:-

{ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} ∩ { 2, 4, 6, 8 }

= { 2,4,6 }

A – B:-

{ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} _ { 2, 4, 6, 8 }

= { 1,3,5 }

B – A:-

{ 2, 4, 6, 8 } _{ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

= {8}

Answer :-

A ∪ B = { 1,2,3,4,5,6,8 }

A ∩ B = { 2,4,6 }

A – B = { 1,3,5 }

B – A = {8}

Used formulae :-

  • AUB is the set of elements either in the set A or in the set B or in both A and B.It is called The union of A and B

  • A∩B is the set of elements in common both the sets A and B .This is called The Intersection of A and B

  • A-B is the set of elements in only A which are belongs to A and doesn't belongs to B .This is called The difference of A and B.

  • B-A is the set of elements in only B which are belongs to B and doesn't belongs to A.This is called the difference between B and A.

Points to know :-

  • The sets can be represented by Roster form, set builder form and venn diagrams.

  • Circles , Rectangles ,Triangles ,Ovals are used to represent sets.

  • These are called Venn diagrams or Venn -Euler diagrams.

  • These are first used by John Vennman who developed this representation .

  • Euler was the person who developed this representation.
