Solution :-

given here

a+ 1/a = 5/2

squaring both side

(a + 1/a )²= a² + (1/a)² + 2 × a × 1/a

put value

(5/2)²= a² + (1/a)² + 2

25/4 = (a² + 1/a ²) + 2

=>(a² +1/a²)= 25/4 - 2

=>(a² +1/a²)=( 25-8)/4

=>(a² +1/a²)= 17/4
