to find:-

a+1/a

apply:-
(a+1/a)2=a2+1/a2+2

(a+1/a)2=23+2=25

a+1/a=√25=5

SOLUTION :  

Given :  

a² +1/a² = 23

Adding 2 to both sides

a²+1/a² +2 =23+2

(a+1/a)² = 25

[By using the formula , (a+1/a)² = a²+1/a² +2× a × 1/a ]

a+1/a = √25

a+1/a = ± 5

Hence, the value of a+1/a is  ± 5.
