SOLUTION

GIVEN

A = - 3 , B = 5

TO DETERMINE

d (A,B)

EVALUATION

Here it is given that A = - 3 , B = 5

Since co-ordinates of A and B are of opposite sign

So Both lies in different side of the origin

Also 5 > - 3

Hence the required d (A,B)

 \sf =  |B - A|

 \sf =  | 5- ( - 3)|

 \sf =  | 5+ 3|

 \sf =  | 8|

 \bf = 8
