 {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  =  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}   -  2ab   + 2ab \\  = ( {a - b)}^{2}  + 2ab \\ put \: the \: values \: of \: a - b = 5 \\ ab = 12 \\  = ( {5)}^{2}  + 2(12) \\  = 25 + 24 \\  = 49

Here we go:-
Given:-

a-b=5

ab =12

To find:- a²+ b²
......
(a-b)²= a²+b²-2ab

=> (5)²= a²+b² - 2*12

=>25+24= a²+ b ²

...So. a²+b²= 49
