Answer: i) a - b = 13

              ii) a² - b² = 117

Given: a + b = 9

           ab = -22

To Find: i) a - b

             ii) a² - b²

Solution:

We know,

(a - b)² = (a + b)² -4ab

Placing the values of (a + b) and ab,

(a - b)² = (9)² - 4 (-22)

           = 81 +88

           = 169

∴ a - b = \sqrt{169}

       = 13

We know,

a² - b² = (a + b) (a - b)

          = 9 × 13

          = 117

Answer: i) a - b = 13

             ii) a² - b² = 117
