Answer :-

(a + b) = 9 and ab = - 22

( a - b ) = ?

→ ( a + b ) = 9

On squaring on both sides

→ ( a + b ) ² = 9²

→ a² + b² + 2ab = 81

→ a² + b² + 2 ( -22 ) = 81

→ a² + b² - 44 = 81

→ a² + b² = 125 ....eq(1)

Let , (a - b) = x

On squaring on both sides

→ (a - b)² = x²

→ a² + b² - 2ab = x²

→ 125 - 2 ( - 22 ) = x²

[ °.° Eq ( 1 ) ]

→ 125 + 44 = x²

→ 169 = x² = ( a - b )²

→ (a - b) = √ 169

13 = ( a - b)

Hence. a - b = 13
