If a body has a velocity 50 m s^-1 and the uniform acceleration is 5 m s^-2, find the it takes to travel a distance of 240 m

initial velocity ( u) = 50 m/s
acceleration ( a) = 5 m/s²
distance travelled by particle (s) = 240m

use the formula,
S = ut + 1/2at²
240 = 50t + 1/2×5t²
480 = 50t + 5t²
96= 10t + t²
t² +10t - 96 = 0
t² + 16t - 6t -96 = 0
t = 6 , -16
but t ≠ -16
hence, t = 6
time taken = 6 sec
