Initial velocity (u) = 0
Final velocity (v) = 144km/hr = 40m/s

time taken = 20s

So acceleration (a) = 40/20 = 2m/s^2

Using the 3rd equation of motion
v^2 – u^2 = 2as
40^2 – 0 = 2×2×s
1600=4s
s = 1600/4 = 400

So distance travelled is 400m (as stated by you :-P)
