If a cell is placed in such solution then the cell will shrink through the process of osmosis. As the cell becomes a hypotonic solution w.r.t to the other solution the solute from the cell goes to the other solution which is hypertonic i.e. of more concentration. Due to the absence of the particular solute the cell shrinks eventually. This whole process is known as osmosis in which substance from low concentration goes into the substance with higher concentration.
