If a compass is kept near a iron body, will it show the correct directon? Why?

Well.....it will deviate a little from the actual direction it has to show, because the
needle is magnetized, to show the poles, north and south, but as iron is attracted by magnets, the needle deflects.

if it is near magnatic field
it will be attracted to field of that material rather than the earth
the field of that thing is greater than earth's
