if a cube of dimension 3 units is made up of 27 small unit cubes, then find the number of units cube required to make a cube of dimension 6 units and 10 units respectively.​

Total 27(3 x 3 x 3) small cubes of 1 unit will be required to form a bigger cube of side 3 units.

So the total faces of all the cubes  = 27 x 6 = 162

But the total visible faces  on 6 sides of bigger cube = 6 x 9 = 54 (like in the image above, 6 red faces are visible, 6 blue and so on..)

Hence,  

Total faces involved: 162

a) Number of faces visible : 54

b) Number of faces  not visible :  162- 54 = 108  

Proportion of the number of faces of the smaller cubes visible to those which are not visible:

a/b = 54/108 = 2
