From the first law of thermodynamics, we know,

dU = dQ - dW

For an ideal gas dW > 0 and hence dU <0 and hence the internal energy decreases. Hence when U decreases, the average kinetic energy of all the molecules decreases. Therefore the temperature also decreases.
