No. of days for which 4 persons will have food = 36
No. of days for which 1 person will have food = 36/4 = 9
If 14 more guests are joined then,
Total No. of guests = 4 + 14 = 18
So,
No. of days for which 18 persons will have food = 9 x 18 = 162
Hence, the food will last for 162 days if the person is joined by 14 more guests.

Golda: wrong answer. If the persons are increasing then how the same quantity of food will last for so many days (You have mentioned 162 days).

Solution :-

More persons, the food will last for less days.

So, this is a case of inverse variation.

            Persons                               Days

                4                                        36

  4 + 14 = 18                                       x

By inverse variation.

⇒ 18x = 36*4

⇒ x = 144/18

⇒ x = 8

So, the food will last for 8 days if he is joined by 14 guests.
