If a man jumps out from a boat, the boat moves backward. why ?

As the man is trying to push himself forward,he is simultaneously pushing the boat back.

When a man jumps ,he applies force to the ground. Similarly, when the he jumps from a boat ,the force applied on the boat makes it move backwards.
