Answer :

A metal spoon is dipped in a bowl of ice cream then the metal spoon becomes cold. But if we put a wooden spoon it will also became cool, but only the part of spoon which is dipped in ice cream, rest part of the wooden spoon will be not affected. This is because metal is a conductor, where as wood is insulator. And insulator doesn't allow heat or cold to pass.

Some Properties of Metals :

  • They are lustrous (means they have shiny surfaces).

  • They are ductile (metals can be converted into wires by certain processes).

  • They are malleable (means metals can be beaten into thin sheets with hammer or anything) .

  • They are good conductors of heat and electricity (means they allow heat and electricity to pass through them).

  • Examples of metals are : Sodium, Potassium, Gold, Aluminium, Silver, etc.

The metel spoon becomes cold due to the process of conduction, the heat energy from one side of the spoon is transferred from one molecule to another due to its motion. This eventually ends up making the other end of the spoon cold until the ice cream and entire spoon is the same temperature. This may take a longer time than a metal spoon as wood is a bad conductor .

  • In terms of tensile strength, tungsten is the strongest out of any natural metal .

  • But in terms of impact strength, tungsten is weak — it's a brittle metal that's known to shatter on impact.

  • Titanium has the strongest tensile strength .

  • Tin is one of the weakest metals.

  • Cesium is the softest metel.
