Explanation: Mass of a carbon atom = 12 amu    ( amu - Atomic mass unit )

                      Mass of a hydrogen atom = 1 amu

                       Mass of a Oxygen atom = 16 amu

Mass of one mole of the compound =  [ 4 X mass of carbon atom] + [ 8 X mass of hydrogen atom] + [2 X mass of oxygen atom]

                                                            =  (4 X 12) + (8 X 1) + (2 X 16)

                                                            =  48 + 8 + 32

                                           C4H8O2  = 88 amu
