If a number increased by 12,equals 160 times of its reciprocal then find the numbers.

let the numbed to be found be 'x'

given that, x+12= 160(1/x)

                 x( x+12) = 160*1

                   x^2 + 12x = 160

                  x^2 + 20x - 8x = 160

                 x^2 + 20x - 8x - 160 =0

                 x ( x + 20 ) -  8 (x + 20) =0

                  ( x + 20)( x-8) = 0

                 x= -20 or 8 because either (x+20) or (x-8) should be 0 in-order to get 0 as the product or RHS
