Let the number be x.

2x + 8 = 40

Subtract 8 from both sides:

2x = 32

Divide both sides by 2:

x = 16

Answer: The number is 16

let the no. be x
if the number is doubled: 2x
Result is increased by 8= 2x+ 8

Hence,
2x +8=40
2x= 40-8
2x= 32
x= 32/2
x= 16
