Original number = 10000

Increased/new number = 10500

Increase = 10500 - 10000

Increase = 500

increase \: percent =  \frac{500}{10000}  \times 100

 =  \frac{50000}{10000}

= 5%

Hence there was an increase of 5% in the number.

hope it helps

have a great day
