Let the number be x.

Multiply it by 8, it will become 8x.

Now add 5 to 8x i.e 8x+5

Given that the result is 65.

Therefore,

$\sf 8x+5 = 65 \\ \sf 8x= 65-5 \\ \sf 8x= 60 \\\sf x= \frac{60}{8} \\ \sf x= \frac{15}{2} \\ \sf x= 7.5$

Hence, the number is 7.5
