Answer:

Yes,

Food will reach the stomach.

Explanation:

Let us assume that a person is standing upside down.

After the food enters the mouth, the person performs deglutition (swallowing) and the food enters Esophagus.

Food in the esophagus follows "The Law of Intestine". Food will always move from oral to aboral directions.

This is because, peristaltic contractions and relaxations of the GI tract try to move the food towards the stomach even if the person is upside down.

Peristaltic movements are done by myenteric plexus of nerves leading to proximal contractions and distal dialations.

Once food reaches the stomach, it will not go back to the mouth due to presence of Tight Gastroesophageal Sphincter.

Answer:

If the person stands upside down, then even after eating food it will reach the stomach:

(i) There will be no expulsion of the gastric contents by virtue of the downward pull of gravity.

(ii) This is because of the Law of polarity of intestine(gut) in which the food only moves from the oral to the aboral end

(iii) Because once the food particle churned in the mouth to form bolus reaches the oesophagus there will contraction of the proximal part and relaxation of the distal part which will push the bolus towards the aboral end only

(iv) Also once the bolus reaches the stomach, tthe gastro- oesophageal sphincter present at the cardiac end of the end prevents further regurgitation of the gastric acidic contents in the upward direction

(v) So eventually the food reaches the stomach counteracting the downward force of gravity.
