  • There are mainly three common refractive defects of vision. These are :

i) Myopia or nearsightedness ,

ii) Hypermetropia or far sightedness , and

iii) Presbyopia.

These defects can be corrected by the use of suitable spherical lenses.

  • If a person is unable to see the objects within 50 cm the defect of the eye is : MYOPIA.

WHAT IS MYOPIA...???

→ Myopia is a defect of a human eye in which a person with myopia can able to see nearby objects clearly but cannot able to see distant objects distinctly.

→ Myopia is also known as Near or short sightedness.

→ Image is formed in front of the retina.

CORRECTION OF THIS DEFECT :

→ Use of concave lens with appropriate focal length.

→ A concave lens of suitable power will bring the image back on to the retina and thus defect is corrected.

CAUSES OF THIS DEFECT ARE :

→ Due to thickening of lens.
